These Buddha quotes are all positive, inspirational words of wisdom. You don't need to be a Buddhist to appreciate the wonderfully insightful words of Buddha. The word Buddha means awakened one or the enlightened one.
The primary figure in Buddhism is Siddhartha Gautama Buddha who was born about 624BC (the exact dates of his birth and death are unknown) in Lumbini which is now Nepal. Siddhartha was a Prince, his parents were King Suddhodana and Queen Maha Maya and although he spent many years being provided with everything he could want or need, Siddhartha felt that material wealth was not life's ultimate goal. At the age of twenty nine he left his palace to live amoung the people and began to live an ascetic life. After almost dying of starvation Siddhartha realized that the extremes of self-indulgence and self-mortification were not the way. At the age of thirty five Siddhartha found enlightenment after sitting under a Bodhi tree vowing not to get up until he found the truth. After forty nine days he had complete insight into the cause of suffering and the steps to take to eliminate it. This became known as the Four Noble Truths. For the rest of his life Buddha travelled teaching all people, he died around 543BC in Kushinagar, now India.

All that we are is a result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become.
Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I said it... Unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.
Buddha was speaking in a village square one day, when one of the inhabitants started to abuse him. Buddha paused and said to the man, “If you offer me a piece of paper and I refuse to accept it, what happens to the paper?” “Why, it stays with me, of course,” the villager replied. Buddha smiled gently, “And that is exactly what I am doing with your abuse,” he said. “I am not accepting it, therefore it stays with you.”
Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.

He is able.. Who thinks he is able.
Health is the greatest gift. Contentment the greatest wealth. Faithfulness the best relationship.
Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else.. YOU are the one who gets burnt.

One
of his students asked Buddha, “Are
you the Messiah?”
“No,”
answered Buddha.
“Then
are you a healer?”
“No,”
Buddha replied.
“Then
are you a teacher?”
the student persisted.
“No,
I am not a teacher.”
“Then
what are you?”
asked the student exasperated.
“I
am Awake,”
Buddha replied.

I become at all times, both now and forever:
A
protector for those without protection
A
guide for those who have lost their way
A
ship for those with oceans to cross
A
bridge for those with rivers to cross
A
sanctuary for those in danger
A
lamp for those without light
A
place of refuge for those who lack shelter
And
a servant to all in need.
